Interview with the Veterinarian
This is a special week here at Paws and Effect. We had a chance to interview our veterinarian, the famous and wonderful Doctor Sarah, about her job. We know the trip to the vet isn’t exactly a highlight of our lives, but having a kind, caring vet like Doctor Sarah takes the edge off the experience just a little bit. The vet is the other most important person on our lives, so we sure do appreciate the importance of good vets and good relationships with the vet.
How can I integrate a blind kitten into my multi-pet household?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: We saw your website and was wondering if you could help. We recently found a kitten in the street (there are a lot of strays here), which had an eye infection. We managed to catch her and to take her to the vet. She has one eye completely gone, and the other is dead — a mess, and the vet says she is completely blind. We think she’s no more than 2 months old. We have other cats and dogs. Are there some tips or advice you have on how we can integrate her into our family? We have done it before, but not with a blind cat.
Why is my male cat constantly having erections?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: I really hope you can help. Basically, we’ve just got a male cat (2 years old) from a shelter and he is really affectionate and loves human contact. He constantly purrs when he’s with us. But the problem is, when he sits on my lap or lies on the bed with me, his genitals pop out. Then he jumps off and licks them. He really purrs loudly and kneads with his paws loads (he’s been declawed – not by us!). Is there any reason for this? It’s a bit disturbing really as it’s now making me afraid of showing him affection as he seems to get ‘aroused’ each time….
Why are my black cat’s whiskers turning white?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: Hi! I have a cat named Pepper, he’s all black like a panther. Last month I noticed that he had a white whisker, now he has two. He’s about 10 years old and I wanted to know if the change in whisker color is because of age or if it could be a health problem. Thanks for any info you can give me! ~ Lori
My cat has severe asthma. What can I do to help him?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: I read your website for the most part. I’m little tired from the heat. But my search started because I was trying to find what exactly theophylline does. Phelonius, my beautiful black Bombay cat, has full blown asthma. Even the vet hasn’t had a case this bad, so I’ve been looking on the Internet. I notice some of you are black with yellow eyes — are you Bombays, too? Anyway, Phelonius was fine for a while, but when I first got him, I did not take him outdoors. Could be a root cause of his asthma? I adopted his brother, Lord Farquaad,a month later, and Farquaad has no problems….
