How can you determine a kitten’s sex?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: Recently we found three abandoned kittens which we’ve adopted. How do I tell what sex they are? ~Georgina
What can I do about my cat’s aggression problem?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: We recently got a cat. His name is Buddah and we got him in July of this year. He is a large cat, not a purebred but probably part Maine Coon from what I have been told. He is just kind of black and gray striped. Anyways we are having some issues with Buddah. First of all, the vet told me to put him on a strict diet. He was 25 pounds (about 11 kg) when we got him. He is only to eat 2/3 of a cup of food, per day. I give that to him but he meows, gets under your feet and nearly trips you on…
What Cats Know About War
A beautiful article written by John F. Burns appeared in the October 14 New York Times Week in Review. The article, “What Cats Know About War,” is a personal piece about his dealings with the feline refugees of the war in Iraq. “IT was a bitterly cold night in the Baghdad winter of 2005, somewhere in the predawn hours before the staccato of suicide bombs and mortars and gunfire that are the daily orchestration of the war. Alone in my office in The Times’s compound beside the Tigris River, I was awaiting the telephoned “goodnight” from The Times foreign desk, eight time zones west, signaling that my work for the next day’s paper was done….
Is there such a thing as a cat birth control pill?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: I have a big problem. I have two adorable kittens approximately 5 months old. They were diagnosed with feline leukemia when we took them to their first check-up. The vet says they will not survive their shots or spaying. We have brought them up since they were about three weeks old because their mother disappeared one night. Being that they are 5 months old I’m worried that the female will get pregnant from her brother. Is there any type of feline birth control pill or shot we can give to both the female and male? We love these kittens and have gone through so much with them. Thanks, ~Annette
My new kitten thinks we’re her chew toys. Help!
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties, My adult cat Misa wrote to you last year to help with her straw chewing habit. Thanks to your advice (her own whisk broom) we happily coexist again. The vet found no problems with her and said the whisk broom was a brilliant idea! For about 3 years now Misa has been an only cat. One day my husband was mowing our yard and the cutest tiny little black kitten came up to him (with the mower still running … that should’ve been a clue), mewed at him and she’s been here ever since. She’s about 8 or 9 weeks old, the vet says. He thinks she was the…
