I spilled oil on my fur! How can my human get it out?

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: Hi, My name is Dashel or Dash for short. I am having a problem with my fur! My person has been helping my recent skin issue with liquid Vitamin E, the only problem, I spilled it and got it all over my tail and backside. Now my normal beautiful fur is greasy and stringy looking. So far my owner has tried giving me a regular bath as well as Dawn dish soap. Nothing has worked! Please, if anyone has any ideas, please let my owner know. By the way this happened two days ago and it has NOT gotten better with time. Many Meows, Dash (and Michelle) Siouxsie: Oh,…

Signal boost: Please help a major animal rescue effort

We want to spread the word about a major animal rescue mission underway in the Santa Clarita Valley of California, USA. Rescuers at Animal Acres Sanctuary and The Gentle Barn Foundation, along with L.A. County Animal Regulation & Control, area dog rescue organizations and other sanctuaries, are in the process of rescuing, providing veterinary care for, and rehoming 200 dogs, 30 or more cats, and 300 or more farm animals including goats, sheep, ducks, pigs, geese, a llama, an emu and a pregnant horse– almost all of which are in need of medical attention. The animals were found at an area ranch, abandoned and sick. The only water they had was polluted by gasoline. Both…

My cat constantly demands my attention. Help!

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: I have a wonderful female spayed tuxedo cat named Penelope. I love her, but she makes working at home very hard. After breakfast she comes into my home office, lays down in front of the keyboard and rests her head on my left forearm. To type I have to rest my right elbow gently on her hip. She then starts purring loudly. I don’t get to type much or she’ll get restless and register her displeasure somehow. This really slows me down. All I can really do is mouse around a little. Actually I move the keyboard off the keyboard tray and back onto the desk so she can…

What does it mean when a cat winks?

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: OK, this is probably a stupid question, but what does it mean when a cat winks? I read somewhere that it means something. ~Barb Siouxsie: Let us start by assuring you that there’s no such thing as a stupid question, Barb. Thomas: In fact, we think it’s highly commendable that you want to learn more about the subtle language of cats. Dahlia: We cats do a lot of talking with our eyes.

My beautiful Birman is chewing his tail bald. Help!

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: First of all, thank you very much for your site. I recently adopted 2 kittens (brothers born June of this year), and these are the first and only cats I’ve ever had. I’m one of those “I’m-a-dog-person-not-a-cat-person” people, so I know nothing about cats. I’ve learned so much from your site! I’m hoping you can help me with one little issue I’m having. As I said, these two are brothers. EekEek is the more outgoing and adventurous of the two, while Emo is the quiet, reserved one. Getting brothers was a God-send, because they take care of and entertain each other. They get along very well, and I have…
