My cat won’t stop meowing. Please help before I lose my mind!

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: My 2 1/2-year-old cat, Pickle, will not stop meowing in the mornings. We tried completely ignoring him for two months, we tried squirting him with water every time he meows, we tried a scat mat (he has a particular spot he meows from) and we have tried a Sssscat motion detector air sprayer. I am at my wit’s end. He has a vet appointment today about this, but I’m afraid I may need to re-home him. I will take every step possible to avoid re-homing him as he thinks of our 4-year-old as his mom and has since he was 5 weeks old. He does not function well without…

How can I help my cat get over her chronic diarrhea?

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: One of my cats had major dental surgery in January. When we adopted her, we found that her teeth were all rotten and had to be removed. Since being on the antibiotic regimen back then, she has had chronic diarrhea. She was put on antibiotics twice to treat it at first and has been on probiotics as well (Culturelle and others), but to no avail. I have her on a chicken and rice diet, and she eats WD dry as well, despite having no teeth. She is hungry all the time, but she has gained weight–before her surgery she was very sick with her infected teeth and was unable…

My cats have started to hate each other. Help!

Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: We have two male cats, a ginger and a black. The ginger one was neutered two weeks ago, and the black one is not yet neutered. The ginger cat has become extremely aggressive towards the black cat in the last couple of weeks. This has become so extreme that the black cat has taken to hiding under a cupboard and won’t come out, not to eat or to use his litter tray. He seems seriously depressed. Both cats are house cats, but since we’ve moved to a more rural location two months ago we are planning to let them out. I am considering letting the ginger cat out now so…

Doing our part to help the rescuers

We’re taking the inspriation for this week’s column from Aleksandra, a volunteer for AdoptAPet.com (formerly 1-800-SaveAPet.com), who wrote us asking if we could add a link to her organization on our website. Because we’re huge fans of animal rescue, we’re absolutely going to link to AdoptAPet.com. But we’re going to do even more than that! We’re writing this column on animal rescue and creating a whole new section of our links directory for cat rescue groups around the world. We hope you readers will be able to help us add to our rescue directory, too.
