All of my cats are fixed. The only two that try to go out in the hallway is Littleshit and Scamp. Bambi,Lady and Flower don't like to get by the door at all. Trouble is too young to know what's out there.I don't think it matters whether a cat that's fixed if they will charge at the door. When I come in from work Littleshit and Scamp will be right there. I always yell "GET BACK. Most of the time they will back away from the door. Maybe the cat wants to go outside. I don't let mine outside at all. There is too many dangers out there. Besides it's safer to keep them in than out. Write back, Tracey

That's a great idea to pet them a little away from the door! Never thought of that.

Luckily, Pimp and Moo don't try to dash out -- but they do meet me RIGHT at the door like doggies. I actually love it (but I'm sure I'd feel differently if they did the meet and dash).

Great advice. :)

Thanks a lot for these tips! I'm going to pass them on to a friend of mine whose door-dashing cat had a very scary experience recently. Usually, if Wellis gets out the door, she runs a little ways and then sits down and waits for you to bring her back. But this time, apparently nobody noticed her going out, and she wandered into a neighbor's basement; and then the neighbor locked up his house and went on vacation... No one could find poor Wellis for nine days! When the neighbor got back, he heard her crying in the basement. That was one very thirsty cat. She's fine now, no ill effects; but she's just as interested in the door as ever. I hope the information you've provided can help.
