Meet the Blind Cat Rescue Kitties: Angel and Maggie
Thank you, everyone, for your donations to the Paws and Effect Be The Change Challenge to support Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary! Today we’re going to introduce you to two more of the cats you’re helping. Angel was apparently born blind. She was saved by a small rescue in Florida, and from there she found a home. Unfortunately, her new owner was evicted from his apartment because he had seven more cats than his lease allowed — including Angel and Maggie, whose story is below. On the bright side, he did return Angel and Maggie to the rescue, and from there they came to Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary. Angel is a very sweet, quiet,…
Crazy cats and a baby on the way. Help!
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: My cat and I moved in with my boyfriend in October. My boyfriend has two male cats, one of whom is obsessive and anxious and doesn’t clean himself very well, so he often has feces stuck to his fur and smears it across the floor. The other cat is territorial and competitive for my boyfriend’s attention; he also steals food and breaks into closets and drawers and sleeps on the clean laundry. I recently discovered that I’m pregnant, and we’re very excited about the baby. But I’m concerned about the cats. I won’t have time to wash poop off the floor, clean a ton of litter, chase the cat…

Meet the Blind Cat Rescue Kitties: Alchemy
Alchemy is one of the cats at Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. He was born with micropthalmia (underdeveloped eyes) and was dumped at a shelter when he was only 8 weeks old. He was adopted by someone who kept him in a 3×3-foot cage in a filthy home for the first five months of his life. After he was rescued, he adapted well to his new life in a clean home, but at about 1 year of age, he began having recurring infections in his eyes. The rescuer’s vet removed his eyes — which weren’t working anyway – and he recovered beautifully. But shortly after surgery, Alchemy began having seizures,…
My cat is tearing up my neighbor’s screens. Help!
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: My 5-year-old neutered male, Bofus, is very sociable and loves to visit neighbors. One in particular is very angry with my cat because he crawls up the screens to try to get inside her house. I have paid to repair the screens but what can I do to keep him from destroying more screens? Keeping him as “inside only” is impossible because I have multiple dogs and cats and kids that go in and out. What product do you suggest to deter his mischief? ~Liz Siouxsie: Ordinarily, we advise that cats stay indoors only. But we understand that in some situations, such as yours, that’s next to impossible. But…
Be The Change: Help raise funds for Blind Cat Rescue
As part of the Be The Change Challenge, originated at the 2010 BlogPaws Conference, Paws and Effect is raising funds for the kitties at Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary provides a no-kill, cage-free environment for the blind cats they rescue from high-kill shelters and from people who can’t take care of them. We believe blind cats deserve the opportunity to live and get a chance at finding a forever home. If everybody who reads Paws and Effect gives just $1, we’ll meet–and even exceed–our goal! Click on the Paws and Effect Be The Change Challenge widget in the column to the right or visit our…
I found a stray cat. What do I do?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: A week ago, this poor 3-legged cat wandered into my garden, and I started to leave milk and bacon outside. She now comes to my garden at about 5 p.m. every day and I figured she only eats smoked ham. Now I’m able to feed her with my hand (as opposed to previously leaving stuff in a plate outside). It looks like she has a good friend, a fat cat who stands a couple of meters away from her when she eats my food. The fat cat allowed me to pet him (or her I don’t know), but the 3-legged cat would move away slightly indicating she doesn’t feel…
