Ask a Question
READ THIS FIRST!
If your cat:
- Was attacked by another animal
- Was hit by a car
Or is displaying one or more of the following symptoms:
- Obvious injury and bleeding
- Limping
- Having trouble breathing
- Dragging hind quarters or “dead/paralyzed” tail
- Hasn’t eaten in 24 hours or more
- Lethargy (can’t wake him up or isn’t moving)
- Convulsions (seizures or fits)
- Fever (glassy-eyed, hot to the touch)
- Staggering and/or walking in circles
- Vomiting repeatedly or having severe diarrhea
- Trouble urinating (nothing coming out, running back and forth to the litter box, crying when urinating, licking genitals furiously after attempts to urinate)
- In labor, but looks distressed or kittens aren’t coming out after an hour or so
Call your vet right now! If you can’t get to your regular vet, call the nearest emergency vet clinic. These are emergencies and your cat needs immediate medical attention.
Otherwise, if you have cat-related question you want to ask us? Please use the contact form below. We’ll answer questions in the order in which they’re received, with three main exceptions:
- If it’s a clearly urgent behavior issue (as in, you tell us it’s urgent or it’s obvious to us that your question needs to be answered before its natural turn in the queue), we’ll answer your question on a priority basis.
- If it’s clearly a medical emergency, we’ll write back to you as soon as we get your question and tell you to get your cat to a vet.
- If your question is about inappropriate urination or defecation, it will probably move down the list. We’ve answered more questions about this issue than anything else, and we encourage you to look at the Paws and Effect archives to see if you can find an answer there. You may also purchase the “Paws and Effect Guide to Solving Inappropriate Elimination Problems,” available through our Shop page.
