Meet the Blind Cat Rescue Kitties: Angel and Maggie

Thank you, everyone, for your donations to the Paws and Effect Be The Change Challenge to support Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary! Today we’re going to introduce you to two more of the cats you’re helping. Angel was apparently born blind. She was saved by a small rescue in Florida, and from there she found a home. Unfortunately, her new owner was evicted from his apartment because he had seven more cats than his lease allowed — including Angel and Maggie, whose story is below. On the bright side, he did return Angel and Maggie to the rescue, and from there they came to Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary. Angel is a very sweet, quiet,…

Meet the Blind Cat Rescue Kitties: Alchemy

Alchemy is one of the cats at Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. He was born with micropthalmia (underdeveloped eyes) and was dumped at a shelter when he was only 8 weeks old. He was adopted by someone who kept him in a 3×3-foot cage in a filthy home for the first five months of his life. After he was rescued, he adapted well to his new life in a clean home, but at about 1 year of age, he began having recurring infections in his eyes. The rescuer’s vet removed his eyes — which weren’t working anyway –  and he recovered beautifully. But shortly after surgery, Alchemy began having seizures,…

Be The Change: Help raise funds for Blind Cat Rescue

As part of the Be The Change Challenge, originated at the 2010 BlogPaws Conference, Paws and Effect is raising funds for the kitties at Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary provides a no-kill, cage-free environment for the blind cats they rescue from high-kill shelters and from people who can’t take care of them. We believe blind cats deserve the opportunity to live and get a chance at finding a forever home. If everybody who reads Paws and Effect gives just $1, we’ll meet–and even exceed–our goal! Click on the Paws and Effect Be The Change Challenge widget in the column to the right or visit our…

This week’s column will be delayed

Mama’s flying home from BlogPaws today, and we’ve given her permission to delay posting this week’s column until she returns. She grumbled something about no free wireless access at Detroit Airport. Poor Mama!

Paws and Effect supports the Shelter Pet Project

More than 3 million healthy and treatable pets are euthanized each year. Shelter animals are loving, loyal pets who find themselves there through no fault of their own. By dispelling myths and misconceptions, The Shelter Pet Project aims to make adoption the first choice when acquiring a new pet. The Shelter Pet Project, sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund, and the Ad Council,  seeks to eliminate the stereotype that there’s something wrong with shelter pets and to make shelters the first choice and desired way for acquiring a companion animal. Please join the Paws and Effect gang in supporting the Shelter Pet Project. Here are some easy ways you can…
