CAT-chup: Keeping Cool Kitties Current: A fun magazine for cats featuring entertaining articles, horoscopes, "Ask April" advice column, and more.

CAT v7.0 Operating Instructions: An operating manual for a cat, written in the style of computer technical manuals. A good laugh, especially if you're a techie type.

Catnip Camera: This gorgeous site was started by Barbarella, an acquaintance we found through LiveJournal. She's a photographer who takes beautiful photos of her cats and others in her community. The site also has a visitors' upload section, so people can upload their own kitty photos to share.

Cats Hate Bush Dot Com: We wish we'd come up with this idea. If your cat loves Bush, you can click My Cat Loves Bush instead.

I Can Has Cheezburger: A site chock full of "cat macros" (pictures of cats with funny text on them).

The Infinite Cat Project: A cat, watching a cat, watching a cat, watching a cat, watching a cat......

Stressed out? Need to decompress? Check out Kitten Break, a site with cute kitty pictures to help you feel relaxed and happy.

Kittyloaves: This online community hosted by LiveJournal features photos of cats in that classic feline pose, the Loaf. Occasionally the community holds contests for best loaf in categories including Best Kitten Loaf, Best Turkey Leg Loaf, Largest Loaf, Longest Loaf, Cutest Loaf, and more. If you love kitty loaves, this is the place to go.

Kitty Porn Dot Org: Fun -- and funny -- photos of cats in unintentionally lascivious (to human eyes) poses.

LOLcats: Another cat macro site. This one is equipped with a tool that allows you to make your own LOLcats!

Mr. Lee's Catcam: A German man purchased a tiny digital camera, which he programmed to take photos at set intervals. He then put the camera in a protective shell and attached it to his cat's collar. The resulting photos show what cats do when they're out on their own.

My Cat Hates You is a photo gallery of the most sour-faced, indignant cats on the World Wide Web.

Stuff On My Cat is just what it says: A photo gallery of cats with stuff piled on top of them. We personally don't know any cats who would allow themselves to be subject to such indignity, but then again, not all cats have as much class as we do.

Cat resources for humans

Animal Wellness Magazine: This magazine is about holistic care for animals. It provides useful information on alternative health care for all animals. Animal Wellness also deals with spiritual and emotional issues of animals and people, and its Animal Passages column often contains heartwarming stories about the lessons humans have learned from their animal friends.

Cat Fancy Magazine: This is the most popular cat-related magazine in the United States. Its content and advertising are directed primarily toward purebred cats and the humans who love them, but its articles on health and behavior issues are beneficial for us moggies, too. The photography is wonderful, too, especially those centerfolds .... mrrraow! ... Of course, we just read Cat Fancy for the articles ... ahem ...

Cat Galaxy Media: Cat TV, cat radio, and all sorts of other cat information. Operated by a three cats and a man with a particular interest in cat rescue, and the site also helps a nonprofit animal rescue group in Arizona, USA.

Cat resources for cats

Catster: The feline version of Friendster, a site for cats to find other cat friends, new homes (if they need adoption), and so on. We're on Catster, and we belong to several groups there. There's also a Dogster for our canine friends.

Stray/feral cat assistance and advocacy

Alley Cat Allies: This organization advocates for trap-neuter-return programs for feral cats. It has lots of information on how you can care for feral cats, start a feral cat program in your state, and a directory of organizations across the US and in several other countries.

Financial assistance for cat caretakers

Care Credit: This company offers assistance with veterinary care costs at participating veterinary practices, at very low interest rates. Care Credit is available for pet caretakers in the United States and Canada.

The Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program: This organization offers assistance to elderly, disabled and other low-income cat and kitten guardians who are unable to afford veterinary services for their companions in the event of life-threatening injury or illness.

Financial Assistance for Pet Owners: This page has a list of links to organizations that provide financial assistance for pet owners who need expensive care for their animal companions.

About.com Cats Forum: There's lots of information about every conceivable cat-related subject here. Forums, articles by cat professionals, links, you name it.

AnimalSites.com: A directory containing tons of animal sites for cats, as well as dogs, horses, or just about any other animal you can think of.

Cat Articles and Links (KittensLair): A source of miscellaneous information on cats: cat names, cat breeds, mating and pregnancy, raising a kitten, cat food and nutrition, cat health and care.

Cat Fanciers Association: This is the main breed-standard organization in the United States. They have detailed lists of specifications for each breed, information on how to select a breeder, and links to breed rescue societies.

Catnews.com: This site lists news stories related to cats from all over the world. We've even had the honor of having our columns listed there as well.

Cat World: This Australia-based website contains a huge number of articles and resources for cat lovers all over the world including information about various breeds of cats, quarantine laws for animal immigrants, links on an array of health and other issues. Highly recommended!

Cats HQ: Everything Cats, from About Cats to Worms In Cats.

The Cat's Purr, and Other Sounds that Heal: An informative article on sound healing and how the cat's purr has a strong healing factor.

Furbabies Cat Care Site: This UK-based website site contains information on various aspects of cat care and health, grooming, feeding, vaccinations, cat shows, cat and kitten names, poisonous plants, glossary of cat terms, breeders directory and cat links.

Kittysites.com: This website has thousands of links for cat health, education, breeding, and much more. Highly recommended! (And of course, Paws and Effect is linked there, too, under the Health category.)

My Life as Nemo: A blog by Nemo, an FIV-positive cat. His human is treating his FIV with a combination of standard and holistic veterinary care and diet/nutrition management. This is a good resource for people with FIV+ cats who want to see what one human is doing to keep her kitty healthy.

Health-related sites

American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association: This organization has a database of holistic practitioners in the United States and Canada who are members and who abide by its code of ethics. If any readers know of similar organizations in other nations, please let us know and we'll list them, too.

Cat Faeries: This site offers Feliway, a cat pheromone analogue that helps to stop spraying, fighting and other territorial behavior in cats. Cat Faeries also offers aromatherapy products, healing crystals, and phone consultations on behavior-related issues.

Cornell University Animal Science Department list of common cat toxicities: This is a good reference guide to pesticides and other common household chemicals and substances that are unsafe for cats.

Eat the Apple: This site has lots of informative articles on treating cats (and dogs) with serious illnesses through a variety of holistic remedies. Very interesting!

Green Hope Farms: Located in New Hampshire, this company makes flower essences for people and animals. In fact, they carry a whole line of flower essences just for animals. Unlike most flower essences, Green Hope's are not preserved in alcohol or glycerin; they use red shiso root as a preservative. We like the taste of the Green Hope essences, and we know they work.

Plants that are toxic to cats: This sub-page of Cat World, linked above in the "Cat Stuff for Humans" section, lists plants from all over the world that are poisonous to cats. As an extra added bonus, it also lists plants that are definitely not toxic to cats, as well as other non-plant substances that are toxic to cats.

VetInfo4cats.com: This site has literally thousands of questions and answers about an array of cat health and behavior issues in the form of letters written to and answered by a veterinarian. It's well organized, and searchable alphabetically. The site itself is free to use, but they also offer a subscription for a small fee, the revenues from which they use to maintain the site.

Cat merchandise and gift sites

"A Cat-Shaped Hole in My Heart" Tribute CD: After losing his beloved cat to feline leukemia, Projekt Records founder Sam Rosenthal wanted to do something to help others avoid this fate and raise funds for a no-kill animal shelter in Chicago (then Projekt's home city). This beautiful album contains songs by a number of gothic, ethereal and darkwave music artists, and Mama says it's a wonderful way to help you work through the grief of losing a beloved cat friend.

Tigerpixie Art Studio: The home page of artist Carrie Hawks, who creates beautiful, spiritual and whimsical artwork featuring cats. She has something for every budget, and even if you're not shopping right now, her site is definitely worth a look!

Cat breeders

Thornplum Cattery, Swanville, Maine. TICA and CFA registered Maine Coon Cats. Gorgeous photos of the kittens she has available, as well as the parents who bred them. She has a lot of brown tabbies or brown tabbies with white feet, as well as a few beautiful silver kittens.

Note: We don't provide links to just any cat breeders, only those we know and can vouch for their cleanliness, intelligent breeding and high standards. If you're a breeder who would like to be listed here, Mama will want to be able to visit your cattery and see for herself that your cats are healthy, well-socialized and not overbred/inbred.

Spirituality and animals

Angel Animals Network: This website shares numerous stories about the spiritual connection between humans and animals. They also encourage readers to submit their own stories of "angel animals" that have touched their lives.

Grief and loss

Petloss.com: This site has numerous resources for helping humans through the grief that comes from losing a beloved animal companion. They have a place where you can post memorials to your animal, links to other sites that can help you through your loss, and they also have online grief support groups. Warning: Lots of annoying MIDI files -- turn down your speakers and enjoy the rest of the content.
