How Cold is Too Cold for an Outdoor Cat?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: We have a kitten who came to us during the summer months. We live in the mountains of North Carolina, and we’re wondering about the cold weather. Our cat is strictly an outside cat, but we thought we would put him in the basement on nights that were very cold. Now our question — how cold does it have to be before we bring him in? In other words, how much cold can he stand? ~ Vicki Image... Read More
Dahlia Tells All: I finally get my way!
After the horrible tortures we experienced on our first day at the Shelter, none of us were in much of a mood to trust those awful humans. But Dolly convinced us to give them another chance. They really are nice, Dolly told us. They just had to do all that awful stuff because there are so many cats here and it would be Game Over for all of us if we all started getting sick. What’s Game Over? I asked. Never you mind, said Dolly.... Read More
Dahlia Tells All: The day I met my first human
Life was going along pretty smoothly for my siblings and me. We were getting used to our puppy brothers and sisters, and even though we missed our momma cat terribly, momma dog was doing her best to make us happy. Momma dog also spent a lot of time teaching us good manners, and I must say I was a particularly good student! I learned right away how to wag my tail when I was happy and how to bite down just hard enough to tell my brothers... Read More
Dahlia Tells All: How I came to be here
Even from my first days in this world, I knew I was destined to be an extraordinary cat. Therefore, it’s only right and fitting that I should share my story with you, my devoted fans. My first memories of this life are nothing but warmth, sweet smells, and the rumbling vibrations that made me know deep inside that everything was all right. Whenever... Read More
How can I get an injured feral cat to the vet?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: We have a feral cat who has been injured. Looks like something took a big bite out of his neck. We cannot get him to a vet; he’s still very wild. He will allow my husband to pet him and come to him, but we can’t pick him up. What can we do for him? I tried to spray some peroxide on his wound, but that’s it. I’m sure he’s tried to lick it off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.... Read More
I found a stray cat. What do I do?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: A week ago, this poor 3-legged cat wandered into my garden, and I started to leave milk and bacon outside. She now comes to my garden at about 5 p.m. every day and I figured she only eats smoked ham. Now I’m able to feed her with my hand (as opposed to previously leaving stuff in a plate outside). It looks like she has a good friend, a fat cat who stands a couple of meters away from... Read More
I’m worried about an injured cat. I don’t know if he has an owner. What can I do to help him?
Dear Most Esteemed and Knowledgeable Kitties: I live on a main road. It’s a small town area, but the main road is used by a lot of 18-wheelers as well as commuters who come to town for work. My two cats are indoor only, but the majority of folks in my neighborhood seem to have outdoor cats. There is one cat I’ve been watching for the last year or so. It disappeared for a while, and when it returned, it was in horrible shape. It had... Read More
